Xavier Bettel awarded Liberal International's medal of Liberalism

The Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel has been awarded the medal of Liberalism of Liberal International (LI) for the promotion of democratic values.

A Liberal International delegation, led by LI President Juli Minoves and including ALDE Party President and LI President of Honour Hans van Baalen MEP, travelled to Luxembourg on Monday 20 June to hand over the medal to the Prime Minister.

After being awarded, Prime Minister Bettel said: “I truly appreciate this medal. I have always been fighting for liberalism and liberal values and I want to emphasise that for us liberals the economy is of importance but so too are human beings.”

Awarding the medal, LI President Juli Minoves said: “It is a key principle of liberalism to have the state and laws based on equal opportunities, without discrimination… As Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel rejects populism… taking difficult decisions crucial for the future of Luxembourg. In presiding over the UN Security Council gaining recognition from the international community.”
