Czech Environment Minister Martin Bursík yesterday in Mladá Boleslav symbolically took over 25 new Škoda Superb GreenLine from Škoda Auto company, to be used this week during the visit of the US president, Barack Obama i, and during the informal meeting of the EU ministers of the environment to be held after Easter.

The Director of External Affairs of Škoda Auto, Radek Špicar symbolically handed over 25 of the 27 Škoda Superb GreenLine cars to the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of the Environment, Martin Bursík after the first two cars were delivered on Tuesday to the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Alexandr Vondra i.  "It is very important that politicians use environmentally sounder vehicles. We greatly appreciate that Škoda Auto helped us meet this requirement and lent the Superb GreenLine cars for this purpose. This means not only good publicity, but it also demonstrates that the Czech car manufacturer is capable of providing a low-consumption vehicle with such high quality,” said the Minister of the Environment, Martin Bursík.

Environmentally sound Škoda cars will be used for the first time during the EU-USA summit. The summit is planned for April 4 and April 5 in Prague, with participation by the president of the U.S.A., Barack Obama, for whom this will be his first official visit to Europe. The cars will also be used, for example, during the meeting of the EU ministers of the environment to be held towards the end of the Czech Presidency.

Škoda Auto achieved lower consumption of the GreenLine range through aerodynamic modification of the chassis, gear-box extension and substitution of a tire-repair kit for the spare tire. The weight and the drag coefficient were thus reduced. Special low-rolling-resistance tires also helped to reduce consumption and thus also the production of CO2. The CO2 production of the Superb model has been reduced to 136 g/km as a result of these measures.
